What's a fair without homemade pies, canned pickles, an old-fashioned quilt or a funky felt purse? Well, it wouldn’t be a fair at all! So, the 2007 L.A. County Fair is looking for cooks, crafters, quilters and everyone in between to enter their homemade, handcrafted goods into one or more of its exciting contests and competitions.
Tapestry and Culinary Styles exhibits are accepting entries now. Deadlines are coming up, with the first being July 12 for all Tapestry entries. Culinary Styles entries need to be in by Aug. 10 for competitions (items that are judged prior to the Fair) and Aug. 30 for contests (entries judged during the Fair). A list of all contests and competitions are on the Fair Web site, www.lacountyfair.com, along with a complete list of rules for each and entry forms.
The Fair runs Sept. 7 through 30 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).Every year thousands enter the myriad contests in an effort to win a blue ribbon (and other really cool gifts like Williams-Sonoma gift cards and cold, hard cash!). In Culinary Styles, there is the ever-popular Great American SPAM Championship, the Ghirardelli chocolate championship, the new Guacamole and Salsa dip contest and a Chili cook-off as well as the beloved preserves, bread and cookie competitions.
In Tapestry, there is a category for everyone in Jewelry, Arts & Crafts, Clothing & Textiles, Needle Art, Quilting and Pottery. Each year Tapestry offers a number of contests for all ages and abilities. Show your style and creativity in beaded jewelry, hand-painted china, mosaics, leather, handmade purses, wedding attire and, new this year, pet attire designed by all you Catvin Kleins and Dogna Karans. Also new this year: categories for professionals in several divisions.
