John Gilbert is the new general manager of the 247-suite Sheraton Suites Fairplex hotel, a member of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Gilbert brings a wealth of hospitality knowledge and experience, most recently as a principal in the Ambassador Management Group, a hotel ownership and management company. Before operating his own company Gilbert was senior vice president & general manager for the Robert Mayer Corporation in Huntington Beach and Las Vegas. With Westin Hotels & Resorts for more than 20 years, Gilbert served as general manager of The Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and The Westin Hotel, Fort Lauderdale in Florida. He assumed his new duties at Sheraton Suites Fairplex May 29.
Gilbert holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Sheraton Suites Fairplex hotel opened in 1992 and recently completed a $9.5 million renovation. In 2005, it earned the hotel-of-the-year designation for the Southern California and Nevada region of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Inc.
