Join the L.A. County Fair at America’s Kids Book Worm Stage for exciting and interactive presentations given by children’s book authors. Presentations take place throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with early hours for school groups participating in the FairKids Discovery Club field trip program. Don’t miss the fun.
Wednesday, Sept. 12 – Barney Saltzberg
Author Barney Saltzberg is a children’s author/illustrator and musical performer whose book titles include Crazy Hair Day, Cornelius P. Mud, Are You Ready for Bed?, The Soccer Mom from Outer Space (a Parents Choice Award winner), Mrs. Morgan’s Lawn and Peek-A-Boo Kisses.
Thursday, Sept. 13 - Julie Mammano
Author and illustrator Julie Mammano will present a lively discussion about her immensely popular children’s book Rhinos Who Surf and the series of books that followed: Rhinos Who Snowboard, Rhinos Who Skateboard, Rhinos Who Play Soccer and Rhinos Who Play Baseball. She is currently working on her newest book, Rhinos Who Rescue. The rhinos are firefighters.
Friday, Sept. 14 – Erica Silverman
Author of picture books including Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa (A Theodore Seuss Geisel Award book), Don’t Fidget a Feather (a California Young Reader medal winner), Sholom’s Treasure: How Sholom Aleichem became a Writer (Sydney Taylor Award winner) and the perennially popular Big Pumpkin.
Wednesday, Sept. 19 –Betty G. Birney
Author of the World According to Humphrey, Friendship According to Humphrey and The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs. Her presentation “How I Learned to Think, Talk, & Act Like a Hamster” demonstrates how to create a unique voice for a character through research, writing and rewriting.
