This year’s L.A. County Fair Chefs on the Rise competition presents a very special culinary cook-off showcasing young chefs on the rise in Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
On Saturday, Sept. 8, students from high schools in Los Angeles County will compete in a hot-food cooking competition. Winners will share $2,625 in scholarship money. On Sunday, Sept. 9, college students from throughout the Inland Valley will compete in their own hot-food competition for an additional $2,625 in scholarship money. Culinary professionals from across the state of California will judge the competitions, awarding scholarships for first through fifth place:
First place $1,000 per student
Second place $750 per student
Third place $500 per student
Fourth place $250 per student
Fifth place $125 per student
In both competitions students will have one hour to prepare portions of an entrée and dessert. Judges will be basing their scores on chefs’ skill, organization, cleanliness, plate presentation and, of course, flavor.
The Fair runs Sept. 7-30, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. For more information about the Fair and the Chefs on the Rise competition, visit www.lacountyfair.com or call (909) 623-3111.
