The 2007 L.A. County Fair’s art exhibitions are a treasured tradition, with fine art, sculpture and photography standing side by side with carnival fun and FairView Farms. Always leading-edge, this year the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts (MSCA) will add some user-friendly technology features to enhance the main exhibition, A Tapestry of Life: The World of Millard Sheets, presented by Farmers Insurance Group, as well as the center’s Contemporary Photography Competition. Look for a video preview of the exhibition at the center’s new Web site, www.millardsheetscenter.org. The catalogue for this year’s exhibition is available online until Sept. 7 at a special pre-Fair price of $25, including shipping and handling (regularly $27.95) and will be available for shipping after Sept. 9. The full-color catalogue includes more than 130 high quality images of artwork featured in the exhibition, A Tapestry of Life: The World of Millard Sheets. This valuable memento also features an essay by Tony Sheets, the artist’s son. An artist himself, Tony Sheets offers many little-known insights into the life and art of his famous father, Millard Sheets, who served as director of the Fine Arts exhibition at the L.A. County Fair from 1931 to 1956. Cell phone audio tours. During the exhibition, which runs concurrently with the L.A. County Fair, Sept. 7 – 30, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, guests will be able use their personal cell phones to connect to a FREE audio program to guide them through the exhibition. This is a recorded recitation of an informal conversation about Millard Sheets’ art between his son, Tony, and Janet Blake, curator of the exhibition and a world-renowned expert on Millard Sheets, as if they were taking guests on a personal tour of the exhibition. For more information about the Fair, visit www.lacountyfair.com or call (909) 623-3111. For information and updates on the MSCA exhibition, visit www.millardsheetscenter.org.
