This year’s line-up of special days at Fairplex Park, home of the L.A. County Fair’s thoroughbred horse-racing meet, has something for everyone, from seasoned fans to racing beginners. Live thoroughbred horse racing runs from Sept. 7 – 24, closed Tuesdays only. The meet is presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino. Here’s what to look for:
Fan Appreciation Mondays – Sept. 10, 17, and closing day on the 24th – offer FREE admission, parking, racing programs and a free Daily Racing Form.
Fairplex Park Baseball Caps Weekend – Baseball caps with the new Fairplex Park logo will be given away to the first 2,000 patrons the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the meet who redeem a ticket for the free cap from the admission gates. Caps will be dispersed at 3 p.m. and tickets will be given out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bingo Bash Wednesdays – Sept. 12 and 19 – spell thrills for everyone. San Dimas Knights charity Bingo will be played on Clubhouse Level 3. Win serious cash from noon ‘til 6 p.m. – $250 cash prize per game! Enter our drawing to win a FREE 3-day Las Vegas adventure at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall.
Texas Hold ‘Em Tourney Thursdays – Sept. 13 and 20 – featuring Texas Hold ‘Em. Sponsored by Harrah’s Rincon Casino and Resort San Diego North. Three groups of 10 players at 10 tables will compete to be king or queen crowned from the 30 finalists. Win a table, win a $200 Best Buy Gift Certificate, win the tournament and win a two-night stay at Harrah’s Rincon Casino and Resort San Diego North. Grandstand Clubhouse Level 3.
Fridays Budweiser Beer Jockey – One jockey will be selected each Friday. Every time the jockey wins a race, a 16-ounce draft Budweiser beer will go on sale for $5 until the next race is run. Race patrons will delight in cheering on the Beer Jockey.
Fridays NTRA Handicapping Mini-Tournaments – Forty player limit on Clubhouse Level 3 during live racing. Top two players each Friday, Sept. 7, 14 and 21, will receive a berth in the NTRA World Series of Horseracing Tournament at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas in January.
Weekend NTRA Handicapping Contest – On each day, 150 patrons participate for cash prizes and qualifying spots into the NTRA/DRA National Handicapping Championships at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas in January. Winners can also opt to go to the Coast Casinos Horse Player World Series if already qualified at NTRA.
San Manuel Promotions and Giveaways – San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino will have a tent on the west end apron on Sept. 7, 8, 9, 22 and 23 where fans can participate in mini games of fun to win prizes.
Live Music – Opening weekend, Sept. 7 – 9, features live music from noon to 6 p.m. with southern California favorites The Answer and The Ravelers.
