Horse racing joined Fair programming as it has for 70 previous seasons. Martin Pedroza emerged victorious for his 11th consecutive jockey championship and was deservedly honored as the 2009 Fairplex Park Hall of Fame inductee.
Fourteen stakes races were featured over the 15-day meet, two of them inaugural. Combined on track and satellite wagering attendance was 156,250, generating a total handle of $82,762,543, with figures reflecting a decline of 12 and 8.5 percent respectively from 2008 figures.
Race fans were entertained by Wiener Dog races and classic and import car shows. We delivered on our value promise with hat giveaways, fan appreciation days and beer jockey Fridays. Finish Line Sports Grill proved a popular destination for race fans during the meet.
