  For Immediate Release
IT’S UPLAND DAY AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
Upland Day is Sept. 30

The city of Upland will celebrate its city, citizens and spirit Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the L.A. County Fair. Upland is one of 19 communities that will be saluted by the Fair weekdays during its 23-day run, Saturday, Sept. 5-Sunday, Oct. 4. The fun-filled day begins with a city-wide expo that spotlights local businesses and the names and faces behind them.

The City of Gracious Living will honor its community heroes and participate in its own parade musically accompanied by members of the Upland High School marching band at 5 p.m.

Upland will salute community heroes Margaret Coffman, Al Canestro and Katherine Baker.

Margaret Coffman is president and founder of HOPE (Helping Out Pets Everyday). She has been an animal advocate her entire life. She has received several honors for her work with HOPE and is actively involved at the Upland Animal Shelter.

Al Canestro is the senior hero. He has been a tireless advocate for the city for more than 40 years, as
a member of Kiwanis, former councilman, and work with the YMCA, Upland Little League and as a
football referee.

Katherine Baker is the young adult hero. She has accrued the highest number of volunteer hours in
the Junior Volunteer program at San Antonio Hospital, donating 260 hours in the maternity unit. She is
involved in Girl Scouts, is active in church and also volunteers at Foothill Family Shelter.

A number of Blue Ribbon businesses within Upland have really got the Fair spirit and will offer Fair tickets to those wishing to buy. The participating businesses will be identified by the traditional Fair blue ribbon displayed in their storefronts. The program is a first and Upland enthusiastically signed up its team of inaugural participants. Stop by, support these local companies and join them at the Fair.

Nothing says family, friends and tradition like a county fair and nothing says strength of community like neighbors gathering and sharing in a celebration. Upland Blue Ribbon businesses:
