Fabric, Design & Merchandising Class - Fall 2011

Welcome to the world of apparel design and construction. Design and sewing is much easier, faster and more exciting than ever before. Technology has brought innovative changes to the fashion industry. Fabric, Design and Merchandising is intended to introduce students to this field as a career. This CTEC course provides a general background
in basic sewing care and operations, use of commercial patterns, selecting appropriate fabrics, constructing a variety of projects, operating specialized equipment and merchandising garments. The practical, real world education a student receives through CTEC is infused with class work that helps develop a fashion vision for the future.

During the spring semester of each year, the Avant-garde Fashion Show, presented by CTEC at Fairplex, is the highlight of the class. CTEC students design, construct and model garments to an audience of their peers, the public and professionals from the fashion industry. Student
event planners, hospitality business students and student videographers handle all of the basic tasks need to stage Avant-garde.
