Santa Anita Derby Simulcast at Fairplex Park

Fairplex Park presents a full racing card including the 2008 Santa Anita Derby, Saturday, April 5, a great day of spirited action in a comfortable environment.
The Santa Anita Derby is considered to be the prep race to the Kentucky Derby, a contest that has seen the success of winners Silver Charm, Sunday Silence, Winning Colors, and more emerge victorious on their triumphant way to Churchill Downs. The Grade I stakes race is for 3-year-old thoroughbreds and is run at a distance of one mile and one-eighth. Other scheduled races include the Portero Grande Handicap, Arcadia Handicap and Providencia Handicap.
Come in, take a seat and watch the exciting action starring the equine elite, among others Colonel John and El Gato Malo, contenders from the highly-contested Sham Stakes run Saturday, March 1. Colonel John crossed the finish line first to dethrone undefeated El Gato Malo in the final furlong and collect the $200,000 purse.  These two could fare heavily in the upcoming encounter.
Watch and wager from Fairplex Park when the field of 3-year-olds competes for the $750,000 prize in the 71st running of the Santa Anita Derby. Next they’ll be running for the roses at Churchill Downs in the first of the hotly contested Triple Crown races, the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. Fairplex Park will host Kentucky Derby action on Saturday, May 3.
Fairplex Park offers plenty of accessible pari-mutuel windows, ample parking with trolley service to the track and a world-class staff on-hand to assist patrons. Fairplex Park is located at the base of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains and is easily reached from the 10, 210 and 60 freeways.
Fairplex Park opens Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. Parking is at Gate 17 on Fairplex Drive.  Admission is $3.
