Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere Judging       

 

The Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition and its panel of tasters invite you to participate in the 13th annual competition open to extra virgin olive oils throughout the world.  The Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere judging will ensure that all oils will be judged at their freshest and best.  The award-winning Extra Virgin Olive Oils will be displayed at the 90th anniversary of the L.A. County Fair, August 31 –  September 30, 2012.

The oils submitted should have a chemical analysis for free fatty acids completed no more than 120 days prior to submission.  To be considered extra virgin olive oils, the free fatty acid level must not be more than 0.8% with a peroxide index of less than 20.

This award is a cash prize of $1,000 to be given to the producer whose oil is judged the best oil overall of each hemisphere tasting. This oil will be judged solely from all extra virgin oils nominated for Best of Class of their respective typology and producing area.

Packaging Design  

          

 The Packaging Design Award is a competition based on the following categories:
  1. Innovative Design (contains some or all of the following).  Unusual and innovative use of die-cutting, silk screening, embossing, graphics or metallic inks.
  2. Market Segment.  Packaging designed to appeal to a particular audience.
  3. Art/Illustration.  Use of original illustration as the driving element of the package design.
  4. Series (minimum of three).  Changing designs that carry a theme or brand identity across several varietals.
  5. Traditional (import and domestic categories).  Understated; use of “traditional elements” (etching, seals, classic fonts), timeless elegance.
  6. Contemporary (import and domestic categories).  Design use of entire package, label, bottle, and capsule using contemporary elements, paper, texture, embossing, metallic inks, art or illustration and color.
  7. Color & Type.  Use of color and typography elements to carry the package design, clean simple, striking.  
  8. Olive Branch.  Best representative of an olive branch.

Awards Offered Per Category
Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals

 

Entry in this competition is automatic when extra virgin olive oil is entered in our competitions and requires no additional fee. 

If an extra virgin olive oil is not entered in the olive oil competition, please fill out entry form and write Packaging Design Competition ONLY and include $10.00 per entry.
