Like a virgin...

In 2000, the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition joined the world-renowned Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, bringing together the finest international and domestic oils and an impressive panel of judges.

This year's competitions received 640 oils from 386 producers. There were a total of 9 Best of Show Awards, 29 Best of Class Awards, 89 Gold Medal Awards, 99 Silver Medal Awards, and 122 Bronze Medal Awards. This year’s competition received oils from Argentina, Australia, Chile, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, Uruguay and the United States.

The competition is judged in two categories – domestic and international –separated according to regional designations and fruitiness intensity levels. The competition also judges flavored olive oils.
